Secretary Gregg? U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg, R-NH, would be a likely choice for Commerce Secretary if the pick would not give Democrats a chance for a filibuster-proof majority. But anything's possible, we learn time and again. The anti-truculent Gregg's holding fast to his no comment, thank you very much. Here are a couple of great stories capturing Hill spin on the fate of New Hampshire's senior senator. DiStaso reports, Gregg up for post. Politico says Gregg is a weather balloon. Dorgan writes NH Obamanators are "surprised." One of the best stories comes from Adam Krauss, Gregg's name floated for Cabinet, who chronicles the ingredients that went into this perfect political storm:
'That's all that was needed. Word began to spread like a brushfire on a windy day. Phones started ringing.'
Curiously, Krauss' piece in The Foster's this morning has a Washington dateline. And he catches up with NHGOP Chairman John H. Sununu in, of all places, Washington, NH, which has 783 registered voters. Now that's building the party from the ground up.
Could Gregg be bored of the Senate? The same Senate that will soon have nemesis Al Franken?

That way, Johnnie Sununu Jr. can run for Senate in 2010!
