Disease-carrying mosquitoes. Deer ticks. Towering pollen counts. Late at night, the vans coast through your neighborhood, spraying God knows what into your environment. It's all enough to make parents keep their kids locked up, sitting in front of an idiot box. Enter the good folks at Audubon. MassAudubon will later this year host a conference dedicated to connecting children to nature. In one of the greatest public service chores of the year, the prominent advocate stokes a growing movement that seeks to reintroduce kids to the wonders of wildlife, from the back yard to the path less traveled. You there, young person, put down that Twinkie!
Children are almost as overrated as nature. I hope they have a blast together and leave me alone with all the Twinkies.
